Why can't I establish a connection to Report-IT from my Codec?
There are a variety of reasons why establishing a connection by a studio codec to Report-IT can be problematic:
Telcos tend to use NATs for 3G data networks on which iPhones operate. This is also common for many WI-FI hotspots. Unfortunately this means that it is impossible to establish a connection from the public internet to Report-IT in these NAT environments.
Report-IT must be launched and running in order to connect to it and it is not possible to launch an App on an iPhone remotely should it not be running.
iPhones will change between 3G and Wi-Fi as required - furthermore they may also change providers. This compounds the NAT problem.
In order to keep the operation of Report-IT simple, and avoid the preceding problems, Report-IT does not support the establishment of connections from a studio codec. Note: This may change in future releases when some of the above issues may be overcome via the use of the Tieline Traversal Server from within Report-IT.
